Provide your Children for immunization--Kogi government appeals

Parents and guardians in Kogi state have been urged to make their children available for the on-going  polio and measles immunization exercise  in the state.

The Kogi state Commissioner for Health, Idris Omede mada the call yesterday in Lokoja while monitoring polio and measles immunization exercise in Lokoja local government.

"The vaccines are safe for children and there had not been any complain of complications since the exercise started. So I urged parents and guardians to make their children available for immunization because the government want to end polio in the state and the country," he said

He said the integrated polio and immunization campaign was to boost immune system of children within the age bracket of 0- 5 years against the child killer diseases, saying that the vaccines is safe children.



Dr. Omede said the exercise which is currently going on across the 21 local governments of the state was to sustain the polio free status recorded by the last  year.

He charged  Lokoja council to provide enough facilities in their central store to ensure adequate preservation of drugs so as to maintain the potency and efficacy of the vaccines, saying the ministry  will give technical support to council.

Earlier, the HOD, health department, Lokoja local government, Fatima Abubakar had complained of inadequate freezes, freezers and generator in the store where vaccines and other medicines are kept.

Also, speaking the Vice chairman Lokoja local government, John Elegun assured that the council would make provision for the facilities,

He said the council will support programme aimed at eradicating polio and other diseases in the state.
