For the second time, governors of Imo, Rochas Okorocha, Edo Adams Oshiomhole, and Rivers, Rotimi Ameachi, Sunday were absent at meeting of south-south/south east governors forum held in Enugu, even as the forum failed to endorse Jonathan for a second term in office.
The meeting, held at the Enugu state government house was attended by governors of Anambra, Peter Obi, Ebonyi, Martin Elechi, Enugu, Sullivan Chime, Delta, Emmanuel Uduaghan, Akwa Ibom, Godswill Akpabio, Abia, Theodore Orji, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa, John Jonah and Cross River state, Liyel Imoke.
It would be recalled that similar meeting was held in Enugu few months ago, and the three governors boycotted it.
In a communique read to newsmen at the end of the meeting by Cross River state Governor, Liyel Imoke, the governors, said “we note that the determination of who will be president of this country in 2015 will be made by the Nigerian electorate in line with democratic tenets, and the power of the people should not be usurped by any group or individuals.
“We call for continued dialogue at resolving national issues and the management of the security situation in the country to guarantee the continued corporate existence of our great nation”
They however, resolved to continue to strengthen economic ties between states in the two zones.
The governors, also called on the leadership of the striking Academic Staff Union of University ASSU and other players to be sensitive to the plight of “our children and call off the strike while resolving issues through dialogue”
