A member of the House of Representatives representing Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Rafael Nomiye yesterday night slumped and confirmed dead.
A source said Hon. Nomiye died at his official residence in Abuja shortly after he returned from a function.
African Examiner gathered that the deceased never took ill and did not complain of any ailment before the unfortunate incident.

KOGI STATE UNIVERSITY LECTURER PARADED AS BOKO HARAM MEMBER


The State Security Service (SSS) in Abuja has paraded five suspected Boko Haram members alleged to have planned deadly attacks on Igala, Kogi State.

Among the suspects were Dr. Mohammad Nazeef Yunus, an Assistant Lecturer in Arabic and Islamic Studies at Kogi State University.  He was said to be the Spiritual Leader and Coordinator for Boko Haram in the State, and the leader of the gang.

How to forestall future ASUU strikes – Professor Ambali


As Nigerians anxiously await the eventual call-off of the five-month old strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has called on the Federal Government and the lecturers' union to put in place a monitoring committee that would ensure that agreements reached between both parties are faithfully implemented in order to forestall future disruption of academic activities.

Not many people realise these days the manner in which the governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, was railroaded as the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in his state in 2007. The retired Rear Admiral was in his farm when his former boss in the military, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, sent for him.  There was minor disagreement over the gubernatorial primaries in Adamawa.  Nyako did not “participate” in the primary election just like his colleague, Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu of Niger state.  But both were handed the party flags in their respective states by Obasanjo under the guise of party supremacy against the dictates of democracy, fair play and justice.

Professor Festus Iyaye is dead


A renown Professor from University of Ibadan is dead. He died along Lokoja-Abuja road early hours of today Tuesday on a castly  motor accident which involved the last Pilot escort convoy of the Kogi state Governor, Captain Idris Wada and a bus that the late Professor was traveling on.

Sources at the scene of the accident disclosed that it was a head on collusion which happened at Banda very close to Koton-Karfi. According to the source the said bus in an attempt to dodged a pot hole a ram into the coming last Pilot escort vehicle in the Governor's convoy.

The Kogi state government has challenged the Kogi 'Elders' to show proof of its allegation  against the government, saying that the onus of proof lays with accuser.

Kogi govt urged to address decay in primary education

A coalition of civil society has urged  Kogi State Government  to address infrastructural and moral decadence in public primary schools to enable delivery of quality  education to the children in the state

The state chapter of the Civil Society Action Coalition on Education For All (CSACEFA) made the call in a statement issued in Lokoja as part of its programme to raise citizens’ awareness on Basic Education.

Kogi to train 630 teachers

The kogi state government in collaboration with the British council is to train 630 teacher across the three Senatorial District of the state.

Governor Idris Wada, who disclosed this during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding the state government and the British council in Lokoja, said the training shows the importance place on the education sector.

The Kogi State Government has charged the 210 intending Christian Pilgrims from the State to use this year's Pilgrimage to experience the truths about Christianity.

The Vice president Arc Namadi Sambo  who is  also chairman National Council of Privatization, gave the warning  over the  weekend during the official handing - over of  Geregu 11 Power plant in Ajaokuta Local Government area of Kogi State to the new investor, Amperion Power Distribution company.

No petition against Awoniyi-----Kogi Assembly

The leadership of the Kogi State House of Assembly said the legislative arm of the government  has not received any petition against the  State Deputy Governor,Yomi Awoniyi over misappropriation of money donated for 2012 flood.
