Primary school teachers in Adavi local government of Kogi State have appealed to governor Idris Wada to prevail on the council chairman to pay their august salaries.
In a petition signed by Comrade Onotu Yahaya, and Ahmed Saka, Chairman and Secretary of Basic Education Staff Teacher of Nigeria, (BESAN) said they were unable to get their August salary as a result of illegal deduction made from their salary over the purported purchase and distribution of laptops to primary schools teachers across the State.
He alleged that over N8,400,000 was deducted from their August salaries in the name of laptop, thereby hindering them from receiving their August salaries.
The group alleged that 786 laptops given out to teachers in June 2013, but other teachers numbering over 139 who are yet to receive the laptop had their monies also deducted from their salaries.
According to the petition after the State SUBEB chairman said he had no hand in the laptop distribution, some local governments stop the deduction while Adavi has continue to deduct theirs
The alleged over-deduction according to the teach was meant for the supply of laptops to teachers in the state by Lord's Promotion Limited in conjunction with NUT, Kogi State branch.
Responding, the chairman of Adavi local government, Salihu Adaviruku denied the allegation, saying that the deduction is made directly from source and that the education secretary is in best position to answer the question.
The Adavi local government Education Secretary, Omeiza Jimoh said the delay in August Salary was as aresult of the over N8 million deducted at source by the SUBEB from the teachers's salaries.
He said in the previous months over N4 million in was for the laptop but in the month of August, over N8 million was deducted thereby making them unable to pay salaries.
