N8.3m fraud: Kogi High Court fixes Dec. 3, for judgement

Kogi High Court sitting in Koton-Karfe has fixed December 3, for judgement in the case of.a Revenue Clerk with the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Lokoja, Mrs Dupe Adeyemi  for allegly defrauding  the centre to the tune of N8.3 million.
Justice Alaba Omolaye-Ajileye who  fixed the date after the prosecuting and defence counsels, Messrs Henry Emore of the Independent Corrupt and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and Aliyu Saiki respectively, adopted their written addressed on Thursday , lamented  the delay in dispensing the case  as a result of frequent changing of counsels and undue requests for adjournments by the counsels.

He said that  the written addresses having been submitted and adopted by the counsels, the court could go ahead and fix a date for the judgement without further delay.

It will be recalled  that Adeyemi was arraigned in 2007 on a 30-count charge bordering on fraud and allegedly  , using  her office as a clerk in Revenue unit of the hospital  to alter documents and falsify statements or returns contrary to the provisions of the ICPC Act, 2000.

In a related development, the judge said he would no longer tolerate applications for adjournments in the case of N5.2 million fraud against  Mr Michael Eseyin of Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs pending since 2005.

He said , Eseyin is standing trial on a 17-count charge of fraud over the diversion of N5.2 million meant for the second phase of the National Identity Card registration scheme in 2005.

Omolaye-Ajileye said the delay in dispensing with the case which he inherited from a retiring in 2005 ought to be of  concern to all parties in the suit.

He  adjourned the  case to January 13 and 14, 2013 for accelerated defense in the matter.
END.
