Kogi to train 630 teachers

The kogi state government in collaboration with the British council is to train 630 teacher across the three Senatorial District of the state.

Governor Idris Wada, who disclosed this during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding the state government and the British council in Lokoja, said the training shows the importance place on the education sector.



The governor who was represented by Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede,said the training will place emphasis on content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge, adding that it becomes difficult to impact knowledge when a teacher cannot comprehend the use of the right terminology in teaching.

He added that  the need to train teachers in content language development followed the inability of most teachers to comprehend the use of English language.

He said the training will improve the standard of education in the state and enhance learning and academic ability of the students, saying that the teachers will be trained in batches of 2010 for nine days.

"To ensure continuity, observers will be selected from college of Education Akpan and Kabba, Kogi polytechnic and faculty of education, kogi state university, so as to continue where the British council stopped," he said.

Earlier,  British Council's Deputy Director in charge training of teachers, Amir Ramzan, said education cannot be developed in any society without training and retraining of teachers

He said the training to improve the knowledge of teachers in the State will assist greatly in improving the quality of teaching and learning, assuring of the council ready to also partner with the state in order areas
