A coalition of civil society has urged Kogi State Government to address infrastructural and moral decadence in public primary schools to enable delivery of quality education to the children in the state
The state chapter of the Civil Society Action Coalition on Education For All (CSACEFA) made the call in a statement issued in Lokoja as part of its programme to raise citizens’ awareness on Basic Education.
The statement signed by Victor Adejoh of CSACEFA and Mr Titus Alonge of TEENSNET said this informed the declaration of every Monday from August, this year, a black one till the lapses in primary education sector were corrected.
The coalition said it was out to make passionate appeal to the Federal, State and Local Governments on the need to revamp basic education in the state and improve on the teaching and learning environment.
The coalition urged the state government to pay its 2013 counterpart contribution to enable release of funds to the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to function effectively saying that primary level was the stage where people learn to read and write.
"The attainment of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on Education and Education for All (EFA) by 2015 initiative, is being threatened by recent unhealthy developments especially in the basic education sector," the statement said.
