KOGI STATE GOVERNMENT SEEKS FOR WORLD BANK SUPPORT

Kogi state government has solicited the support of the World Bank in checking the erosion menace ravaging the state as well as execution of watershed project in the state.
The state Governor. Captain Idris Wada made the plea at a meeting with the Country Director of the World Bank Mare Franco Munelly and her management team on the areas of collaboration towards achieving the transformation agenda for the state by his administration.
Wada while asking for Kogi to be part of the benefitting states of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed project under the World Bank Scheme assured that his administration would remain committed to the regular payment of its counterpart funds to attract more World Bank assisted programmers.
According to the Governor, "Kogi is blessed with arable land and other natural resources that could attract investments and World Bank assisted projects in thestate".
Other areas of partnership reached between Kogi state and the World Bank a cording to the Governor includes; Agric transformation especially in rice and cassava production, education, urban water project, human capacity building and Youth empowerment.
He disclosed that 250 hectares of land had been cleared in each of the 21 local government areas of the state to boost agricultural activities in the state. Captain Wada expressed the hope that the stable crop processing project embarked upon by the state government will in the next two years create employment opportunities for ten thousand youths in the state.
He stressed that Kogi state is the leading cassava producing state in Nigeria and had already established cassava processing zones in 16 of its local government areas.
Responding, the Country Director, Mare Franco Munelly gave the assurance to assist Kogi state in its developmental drive in the core sectors of the state economy.
She described Kogi state as one of the most viable states to invest in Nigeria in view of its abundant natural resources, strategic location and favorable security situation.
