The Vice President of Kogi State Traditional Council and Ohinoyi of Ebiraland Alhaji Ado Ibrahim has said that the fight against illicit drugs is a collective responsibility of all as measure to curb societal ills.
The Ohinoyi who disclosed this while receiving the State commander of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Bello who paid him a courtesy visit at Azad Palace in Okene yesterday,stated that the role of NDLEA can not be over emphasised in making society illicit drug free.
The Royal father explained the command need the cooperation of the immediate environment to succeed in the war against illicit drugs in the state,stating he will continue to partner with NDLEA to ensure that the use of drug is eliminated from the state.
He commended the state commander for the move to partner with traditional rulers in the state, noting that the traditional rulers will want to see his subjects run mad and in view of this fact youths as well their parents will be sensitized against the use of illicit drugs in the communities.
Ohinoyi therefore called on the Command to beam their searchlight at the politicians who are in habit of buying the hard drugs that induced the youths to be thugs, stating that those quack Doctors who are killing people innocently.
Earlier in his address, the State Commander of NDLEA, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Bello told the Monarch that he and principal office came to solicit the support of the traditional ruler, adding that drug abuse is a catalyst for crimes as Ebiraland is not left out of the menace of illicit drugs.
Bello explained that on several occasions the command has raided some identified. Cannabis. Smoking joints and equally arrest commuter drivers on transit on Okene- lokoja highway.
He stated that more wearisome is the growing trend abuse of phychotropic substance among the youths who are leaders of tomorrow.
The NDLEA boss pointed out that as part of efforts in ridding kogi state of menace of hard drugs, the command had between february 2011 till date seized a total of 12,391.852kg of illicit drugs, adding that 344 suspects were arrested,while the command of has prosecuted 65 suspects, impounded 46 vehicles and counselled over 126 drug dependant persons.
