ASSU strike; activist calls for speedy resolution
The National President of Ebira Peoples Vanguard,(EPV), Abdulrahman Adoke, has called on the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities,(ASSU), to urgently resolve the three month old strike in the interest of the children regarded as future leaders.
Speaking with journalists in Lokoja, Adoke regretted that the students have been made to suffer unjustly, saying that the FG should honour the agreement it free entered into in 2009 with ASSU.
He however appealed to ASSU to consider the plight of the students and their parents by suspending the strike pending the outcome of their negotiation.
"While calling on the Federal government to respect its own part of the agreement it freely entered into with ASSU in 2009, we appealed to the lectures to suspend the strike in the interest of the children and their parents" Adoke stressed
According to Adoke, no nation can develop effectively without a virile educational system, calling on government at all levels to take the education of their citizenry seriously.
Similarly, Adoke called on the Kogi state Governor, Captain Idris Wada to speedily end the three month old strike embarked up by primary school teachers in the state to press home their demand.
While praising Wada for his intervention higher education in the state, Adoke noted that government must rise to the occasion by addressing the demands of the teachers, particularly, the issue of minimum wage which he said has become a recalling decimal.
Adoke maintained that primary education which is the foundation of learning must not be toiled with, saying that government must urgently resolve the lingering crisis as a sign of its commitment to transforming the education sector.
