As part of effort to curb the incessant collapse of building in Kogi State, the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners, NITP has vowed to ensure strict compliance by the property developers to the rules that guide urban development in the state.
The Chairman of the Institute in Kogi state, Mr. Abraham Samuel stated this yesterday shortly after the inauguration of the new executives of the institute in the state.
Samuel queried the way and manner structures are being put in place in the state capital and its environs without proper approval as well as professional touch which he said was responsible for the incessant collapse of building in the state.
He explained that the institute has been doing all it can to ensure that quacks are weed out of the profession in the state.
He commended the members of the proffesional body for electing him as the branch chairman and promise to justify the confidence repose on him.
Earlier, the General Manager of Kogi State Town Planning Board, Mr. Abdul Odaudu said the board will not rest on it oars to ensure that the town planning law are adhere to by both private and public properties developers in the state.

PDP will soon overcome its internal crisis- Kogi ALGON chairman
The chairman of the Kogi state chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria,(ALGON) Mr. Aloysius Okino has expressed optimism that the Peoples Democratic Party,(PDP), would soon overcome its current leadership crisis and come out stronger.
The chairman who was speaking in Adogo, headquarters of Ajaokuta LGA, at the 65 birthday celebration of his father, Chief Moses Ado Okino, said as the dominant party in the country, it can not shy away from crisis and its resolution.
While also commending the Kogi state governor, Captain Idris Wada, over his role at resolving the crisis, he called on the warring factions to embrace dialogue, saying that he is confident that President Goodluck Jonathan and elders of the party are capable of resolving the crisis.
The ALGON chairman who is also the chairman of Ajaokuta local government area, called on members of the party to rally round the president in his resolve to transform Nigeria.
Okino maintained that the progress made in the last two years in the areas of, Agricultural transformation, rail development, the aviation sector and the attention given to the steel sector the president attested to the fact that the government is on track.
He called on the citizenry to think more of those things that unit the country rather that divisive tendencies which has been hindering the development of the country previously.
According to him the development of Nigeria and its advancement is the collective responsibility of all, noting that the current security challenge and economics woes could be overcome if everyone does his part.
Earlier, Chief Moses Okino had called for prayers for Nigeria to overcome its security challenge, saying that everyone must pray for those in authority to lead the country to the part of progress and prosperity.

The Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada has appealed to the federal government to make Lokoja, the state capital, epic center of the Centenary celebration of Nigeria at 100 in view of its antecedent in the historical evolution of the country in the early days of colonial rule.
Governor Wada made the appeal at the weekend at a 2-day sensitization workshop for Hospitality and Tourism stakeholders accros the country in Lokoja.
He said Lokoja played key roles in the making of the Nigerian state beginning with the naming of the country ‘Nigeria’ which was coined by Flora Shaw, wife of Lord Lugard and first Governor General of Nigeria in 1898 in Lokoja
Governor Wada said his administration is committed to exploring the tourism potentials of the state in the effort to revamp the state’s economy, saying that the workshop come at the right time when the government is creating a favourable environment for investment in the state tourism sector.
Earlier, Director General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR)Dr. Munzali Dantata, said the workshop was meant to provide a forum for increased public enlightenment and awareness of the rich potentials in the nation’s tourism industry.
He added that it will afford participants to identify challenges confronting the industry with a view to appropriately harness the tourism resources for greater economic growth and development
Dr Dantata said tourism is one of the fastest growing industry of most world economies providing employment and as catalyst for social transformation and cultural integration.

As some state of the country are experiencing, residents living in flood prone areas in Kogi state have been told to relocate to higher ground.
Acting Executive Secretary kogi state Emergency Management Agency, Mrs. Alice Ogedengbe said this at the weekend during sensitization visit to Budon and Abugi community in Lokoja local government of the state.
She said with the flood ravaging some state already, there is no need for residents to wait for it it come, saying that it is better to move now as it is always devastating when caught aware by flood.
According to her, though the state was fully prepared for the flood but residents will have to play their part by heeding the advice and directive of the government to relocate out of the flood proned areas and stop the blockade of water channel through refuse dumping.
She said we want to avoid last year's experience, hence the earlier the residents take the warning the better for the state and the people.
She said state government has interest of the people in mind and would always cater for them, saying that it is only when they are alive that the government can adquately care of them.
