DRUG TRAFFICKING IS INIMICAL-- GOV. WADA

The Kogi state Governor, Captain Idris Wada has said that drug trafficking is 
inimical to the socio, political and economic well being and development of any given society.

He made this known while declaring open a one day sensitization workshop on drug trafficking organized by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NDLEA and ECOWAS which tool place in Lokoja on Thursday.
The Governor noted that the war on the trafficking and its components should not be left for National.Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) alone but as a collective war by every stakeholders in the country.

Captain Wada described drug traffic,ing as immoral Nd ungodly especially in young persons who through being victims, consequently lose their opportunities of contributing meaningfully to the growth of the society as this result in colossal lose of human capacity by the society they come from.

He commended the Economic Community of West African States(ECOWAS), the NDLEA and other related agencies for organizing the workshop which according to him will go a long way especially to the rural populace to bring about a sharp reduction in the crime of trafficking of drugs. 

Earlier, the Honorable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nurudeen Muhammad in his address said drug traffic,ing is having negative effects on the stability and security of the West Africa states, with evidence of the use of the proceeds from drugs trade in sponsoring terrorism and extremist activities in the sub-region, including violent conflicts.

According to him, no reason whatsoever is justified and permissible for anybody to engage in illicit drug trafficking and local cultivation of Cannabis bearing in mind that the consequences are severe.

He therefore acknowledge NDLEA for positive strides the Agency is making in the fight against drug trafficking.
