Delegates of Okun extraction from Kogi State to the 2014 National Constitution Conference holding in Abuja have been asked to heed to the warning of president Goodluck Jonathan to shun prejudices of the past and think of the future and development of the country.
Kogi State Deputy Governor,Yomi Awoniyi made the appeal at a dinner in honour of the National Conference delegates from Okunland organized by the Okun Development Association,held at the Rockview Hotel Abuja.
Awoniyi,commended President Goodluck Jonathan for listening to the desire of the people for the convocation of the conference that is aimed at deliberating on matters of great interest agitating the minds of Nigerians.
Awoniyi urged the delegates from Okun extraction to move away from sentiments, prejudices of the past and think of a better Nigerian.
He urged the six delegates of the Okun extraction to count themselves fortunate to have been nominated among eminent Nigerians to the confab. The Deputy Governor also urged them to as a matter of importance place emphasis on matters of unity affecting Nigeria,Kogi State and Okun people in the realization of a united and stronger nation.
The Deputy Governor said he is happy with the caliber of people nominated to represent the people from the area and described them as people of sound mind and lovers of Okunland.
Awoniyi urged them to discharge themselves in reputable manner and do justice to their reputation as Nigerians.
The Deputy Governor assured that the state governor,Capt Idris Wada has assured of technical support for all the delegates from the state so as to enable them offer quality representation.
He then congratulated them on their nomination to the confab,asking them not to misplace the opportunity the present conference offers them.
In his speech,Chief Eyitayo Lambo and convener of the Okun Think Tank,said the agitation and the demand of Okun people at home and in the diaspora,has been articulated in a position paper by the Think Tank and endorsed by the general assembly of over 300 Okun people.
Prof Lambo called on the delegates to work to the actualization of the desire of Okun people by articulating their needs as contained in the paper.
Prof Lambo called on the nominees not to betray the Okun agenda,prayed God to grant them wisdom to achieve the objectives.
Earlier in his address,Ambassador B.P. Fadumiyo, National President of Okun Development Association,described the National conference as one that will lay a solid foundation for children yet unborn.
The President congratulated those who made the final list,called on them not to see their nomination as sheer luck,but that they made the list on merit and said it was well deserved.
In their separate speeches, Chief Bayo Ojo, SAN, and Chief Kola Jamodu who are nominees to the confab,promised to justify their nomination. They said their nomination to the conference is a duty call,assured that the hopes and aspiration of their people which lies on their shoulders will be pursued at the conference.
The delegates of Okun Extraction to the confab are: Mr Raphael Osanaiye,AIG (rtd)representing the Association of Retired police officers of Nigeria,
Amb John Kayode Shinkaiye,representing retired state security and NIA Officers,
Chief Kola Jamodu,representing MAN,Dr Femi Obayori, representing socio-political /cultural and ethnic nationality groups in south west geo-political zone of Nigeria,
Chief Bayo Ojo,representing socio political/cultural and ethnic nationality groups in north central geo-political zone of nigeria and Prince Olushola Akanmode representing Kogi State.
